The new TechGrad Scholarship (previously CyberFirst Bursary)

The new TechGrad Scholarship (previously CyberFirst Bursary) will open for applications from Mon 2nd Nov ’26 and close on 25th Jan ’27, with up to 1,000 undergraduate scholarships up for grabs – all funded by HMG.

The TechFirst Undergraduate Scholarship and Development Programme is designed to support both students looking to apply for a full-time degree at a UK based university and for 1st year undergraduate students or any eligible UK student who is looking to study an integrated Masters Programme, all with the expected start date of September 2027

The programme is open to students from any school or college, and they can be looking to study a degree in any subject. Students do not need to be studying Computing or Tech related subjects and applications are particularly welcome from under-represented groups

Further information

This initial Registration of Interest (ROI) process will remain open until the main application process launches. More information can be found at : https://www.gov.uk/guidance/techfirst-undergraduate-scholarship

This page https://www.gov.uk/guidance/techfirst-undergraduate-scholarship has further information on the scholarship offer and eligibility criteria.  Registering interest is not an application.

Why should students register their interest?

By registering their interest, prospective applicants can receive access to programme updates, online events and support sessions, and guidance on preparing for the recruitment process. This ROI process is designed to build early awareness of the scholarship and encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates, including under-represented groups, women and those from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. The selection process is not easy and will likely consist of an initial application form, interactive learning activities and a technical aptitude test, and an interview.

The scholarship offers:

  • £4,000 for each year of full-time study at a UK university, for up to 4 years (excluding year in industry)
  • summer development or work placements (typically around eight weeks long) in a frontier digital or technology field
  • career guidance, mentoring and support to help you move into employment, research or technology-related opportunities after graduation
  • regular events, including networking opportunities, conferences and skills development activities throughout your studies
